Material Switcher gives viewers a swatch panel for picking between material variants — finishes, colours, fabrics — without leaving the scene. It activates automatically once any mesh has more than one variant defined.

How to add a material variant #

Select a mesh in the scene, then on the Material Settings panel click the + icon to add a new variant of that material. Each variant captures the current material state — base colour, textures, all PBR properties — into a separate slot you can switch between.

As soon as any mesh in the scene has more than one variant, Material Switcher activates automatically. Open Preview mode to see the swatch panel appear in the viewer — switching plays a smooth animated transition between materials, not a hard cut.

Editing the variants themselves #

Material Switcher only handles the swatch UI for viewers. Creating and editing the actual variants — colour, textures, PBR properties — happens in the Material Editor. See its page for everything the editor can do.

Hiding the switcher in shared scenes #

Sometimes you want multiple variants set up but the swatch panel hidden from viewers. In Viewer features, uncheck Material switcher — the variants stay defined in the editor, but the swatch panel will not appear in the published or embedded scene.
